ベネズエラ出身のソフィアはニューメキシコの高校を卒業後、ピッツバーグ大学で経済学を学びました。大学2年生のとき、彼女はビジネスメンタリングプログラムに参加し、プロティビティで働く人々とマッチングしました。これがきっかけでソフィアはコンサルタントという職業を知り、自分に向いているのではないかと思い始めました。

インターンからフルタイムへのステップアップ

メンターのアドバイスを受け、ソフィアは大学2年生の時にコンサルティングを直接体験してもらうために企画された2021年の「Discover Protiviti」という2日間のプログラムに参加することにしました。その年のプログラムはリモート形式で行われましたが、それでも非常にインタラクティブで、ソフィアの興味をかき立てました。そして翌年の夏、ソフィアはプロティビティのインターンシップの面接を受けました。数週間のうちに、彼女は2022年にプロティビティのピッツバーグオフィスでインターンをするオファーを受け、承諾しました。

インターンシップ期間中、ソフィアは3つの異なるクライアントのプロジェクトに携わり、そのうちの1つはクライアントの倉庫での現場作業でした。彼女は、このような幅広いコンサルティングの実体験を提供されたことを幸運に思いました。インターンシップを成功させた後、彼女は卒業後にフルタイムのポジションのオファーを受けることができました。

チームのケアとサポートで自信をつける

ソフィアは2023年7月、プロティビティの事業パフォーマンス改善部門で正式にコンサルティングのキャリアをスタートさせましたが、この選択に後悔はなく、自他ともに認める外向的な性格の彼女は、新しい人々と出会い、新しい課題に取り組むことを楽しんでいます。

とはいえ、最初は、自分を過小評価してしまう「インポスター症候群」の不安を感じることもあり、それを克服する必要がありました。若手メンバーとして多くのプロジェクトチームで最年少だった彼女は、チームメイトが励まし支えてくれたとはいえ、最初は意見を言うのに気後れすることもありました。しかし、今では自信をもって自分の考えや意見を述べることができるようになり、また、オフィスやクライアント先でのさまざまな人間関係もスムーズに対応できるようになりました。

「Discover Protivitiもインターンシップも、プロフェッショナルについて学ぶ素晴らしい機会でした」と彼女は言います。「これほどまでに温かくサポートしてくれる仲間と働けることに感謝しています。最初は学生からキャリアをスタートさせるのは少し不安でしたが、成功を望み、喜んで助けてくれる仲間がいれば、その不安も小さくなりました。」
