Life At Protiviti Life At Protiviti Careers Home Career Blogs Who We Are Building What Matters: How Cassie Melani Is Elevating Advisors and Careers at Protiviti Cassie MelaniPerformance Development Senior Specialist, Seattle, WACassie Melani has spent more than a decade building her career in the people function—from recruiting to learning and development to employee experience and performance management. That breadth of experience gives her a unique perspective on how programs, processes, and people intersect—and how thoughtful design can make a real difference.Joining Protiviti in 2024 marked Cassie’s first role at a consulting firm, and it came with a challenge she found especially motivating: building something new. “I’m a builder by nature,” she says. “The idea that there was real opportunity to create and shape programs from the ground up was incredibly exciting.”Cassie brings that builder mindset to all her work on the Performance Development team, a small but mighty group that supports the firm’s performance cycle, goal setting, enablement resources, and internal communications. It also underpins one of Cassie’s most visible and impactful initiatives: the Top Advisor Program. “One person’s excellence becomes a model others can learn from.” Elevating the advisor experience“Advisors are often the unsung heroes of the organization,” Cassie explains. “They play such a critical role in opening doors, developing people, and guiding careers—but it’s largely unpaid, behind-the-scenes work.”The Top Advisor Program was designed to change that. Built from the ground up, the program recognizes advisors who exemplify excellence across three core areas: relationship-building, driving performance, and career development. In its first cycle alone, the program received more than 270 nominations — a powerful signal of how deeply advisors impact their advisees’ careers.Cassie and her collaborators were intentional about how the program was structured. Nominations were reviewed through a rigorous, unbiased process, with identifying information removed to ensure selections were based solely on impact and behaviors. The result: a global group of top advisors whose stories now serve as learning opportunities for the broader advisor community.Recognition as a catalyst for learningFor Cassie, recognition isn’t just about celebrating wins. It’s about fueling development.“When we tell these stories well, they create learning moments for the entire organization,” she says. “One person’s excellence becomes a model others can learn from.”That philosophy shows up across her work. In addition to leading the Top Advisor Program, Cassie has helped create advisor workshops, global training experiences, and a dedicated advisor community where advisors can connect, share insights, and learn from one another rather than operating in silos. These opportunities enable advisors to share best practices and help others in the organization to see real-world examples of what great advising looks like.At the heart of it all is a human-centered approach to performance and development—one that emphasizes clarity, empathy, and growth. Cassie describes her role as helping make complex or traditionally stressful processes feel more approachable, engaging and meaningful.Collaboration at the coreThe Top Advisor Program is also a testament to Cassie’s collaborative leadership style. Launching it required close partnership across People & Culture, Rewards & Recognition, Employee Experience, Knowledge Management, Communications, Creative and senior leadership—along with a dedicated advisor selection committee.Clear ownership was key. Cassie served as program lead, working alongside teammates Brittany Parker, Ali Manalansan and Maggie Choi, who owned recognition strategy, communications, international coordination and inclusion considerations. “When people truly own their workstreams, they’re empowered to do their best work,” she says. That collaborative ethos — it belongs to all of us — has shaped not just the program, but the team behind it.Leading by exampleCassie’s passion for advising is deeply personal. She credits her own advisor at Protiviti with modeling what excellence looks like: deep subject-matter expertise, context-switching with confidence, and investing fully in people’s growth. That example influences how Cassie approaches every program she leads.Outside of work, Cassie recharges through creativity and movement—making cold-process soap, attending spin classes, and spending time outdoors with her husband, dog, and cats in Seattle. She believes that taking care of yourself outside of work isn’t separate from professional success; it’s essential to it.That belief carries into her vision for advisors, too. “Advisors are role models,” she says. “When they model healthy boundaries, curiosity, and self-care, it creates a ripple effect for their advisees.”The common threadWhether she’s designing recognition programs, supporting performance cycles, or building advisor communities, one thread runs through all of Cassie’s work: building systems that help people feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow.“I’m motivated by knowing that the programs I work on can genuinely change someone’s career trajectory,” she says. “That’s incredibly meaningful to me.”Want to learn more?
