‘i on Hunger’ Event to Pack 300,000 Meals for Washington D.C. Food Banks and Hurricane Florence Relief

Employee volunteers from Protiviti, Freddie Mac, Hilton and HITT Contracting team up to fight hunger

WHAT: A meal-packing event with a goal of assembling 300,000 individual ready-to-cook meals for the hungry. The meals will later be delivered to food banks in the metro Washington D.C. region and to those affected by Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas region.

WHO: Employees from the Washington D.C. area offices of global consulting firm Protiviti (www.protiviti.com), Freddie Mac (http://www.freddiemac.com), national general contractor HITT Contracting (www.hitt.com) and Hilton (https://www.hilton.com) plus 10 other D.C.-area organisations will assemble the meals for distribution by the non-profit organisation Feeding Children Everywhere (www.feedingchildreneverywhere.com).

WHEN: Meal-packing takes place on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM EDT. A reception for the volunteers will follow immediately.

WHY: ​Protiviti, Freddie Mac and HITT Contracting are collaborating on a large meal-packing event in Northern Virginia as a way for the local business community to give back to those in need. Over 450 people are expected to volunteer on September 28th to meet or exceed the goal of packing 300,000 meals for the hungry. 

This is the third consecutive year that local organisations including Protiviti have coordinated their efforts to focus on hunger relief. For the 2018 event, in the wake of Hurricane Florence, employees from Freddie Mac, HITT Contracting, Hilton and the local Protiviti office were inspired to provide a portion of the meals to support people in the communities affected by the severe storm and subsequent flooding. Building on its existing i on Hunger programme, Protiviti is working with its long-time non-profit partner Feeding Children Everywhere to arrange for the meals to be delivered directly to those affected in the Carolinas region, in addition to metro D.C. food banks. 

Protiviti’s year-round award-winning i on Hunger initiative has packed over six million meals for the hungry around the world through meal-packing events, food drives and meal delivery efforts since its inception in 2014. With the September 28 event, its total donated meal count will hit or exceed seven million meals. Protiviti has twice been recognised by Feeding Children Everywhere with its Hunger Hero award for the firm’s continuing efforts to fight world hunger.
