The client was looking to modernise their analytics environment. The current infrastructure and architecture were overly complex, maintenance-heavy, underperforming, costly, and rapidly approaching their end of life. The client was also looking to expand its use of data into the advanced analytics realm, seeking new avenues to increase customer engagement and profitability, as well as make a first foray into the cloud.

Protiviti evaluated several cloud-based data platform vendors for a fit with the bank’s IT and business environment. We constructed the pilot on a fully secured Snowflake-based data platform, hosted on AWS cloud. Historical data movement was streamlined using a Python-based DMT accelerator tool.

​This solution has enabled the client to make its initial move into AWS cloud and eliminate its on-premises-based legacy data environment.

The solution enabled increased agility in releasing data products to the business customers, provided a single unified platform to deliver timely critical reports/analytics and implemented data science use cases. It also allowed the migration of a complete application to the cloud, helping pave the path for several subsequent cloud migrations​.

A leading North American book distributor was looking to modernise its data and analytics environment by moving its current on-premise data warehouse to the Azure cloud. The client was encountering multiple performance issues with their current Power BI-based dashboarding solution due to increased data volumes and a lack of scalability in their underlying technology solution. The client also did not have a clear long-term strategy for data and analytics technology and needed guidance on transitioning to a modern cloud-based data platform.

Protiviti conducted an in-depth current state assessment, identified key data and analytics requirements, and mapped out the future state vision of how the client wanted to use data to drive their business. We identified and prioritised gaps, delivered a roadmap to remediate the gaps, and delivered the future state requirements—an end-to-end data and analytics MVP on the Azure cloud.

The project provided several value-added benefits for the client. It identified specific gaps in their data and analytics roadmap and delivered a near-term and long-term plan and architecture in alignment with the future state vision. It delivered a powerful and scalable modern data platform on Azure. And it implemented an MVP that gave them insight into their Inventory KPIs and status originating in multiple source systems, including Dynamics 365 F&O and Blue Yonder. And finally, using Protiviti’s offshore-onshore resourcing model and team of cloud data experts, we provided significant cost savings to the client and helped them focus on business insights with minimal effort on data management.
