Ernst Stoelhorst

Managing Director

Ernst is a Managing Director with Protiviti in the Amsterdam (Netherlands) Office. He has around 20 years of business experience in supporting companies to enhance their Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC). His main focus has always been to provide more assurance and/ or lower cost through technology and/ or data.

At Protiviti, he creates innovative data driven risk, control and audit concepts and focuses on data analytics/ mining and ERP solutions (mostly SAP). Through his network, he attained 12 new names (eg Heineken, Signify/ Philips Lighting, Akzo and ASML). He re-energized the ERP/ SAP and Data Analytics solutions, and grew the team by winning 23 SAP (8 related to SAP GRC), and 9 data analytics projects.

Formerly, Ernst has been working at SAP in the Netherlands where he has built their GRC software practice and eco system. His responsibilities included account and customer relationship management, sales and software license revenue. In 5 years, he grew license revenue from 1 to EUR 4m with deals closed at Shell, DSM, Sabic, Heineken, AKZO Nobel, ASML and ABN AMRO amongst others.

At EY, he started their Enterprise Risk Management practice in the Mid America region for a period of 3 years while living abroad. His responsibilities included account and customer relationship management, sales and services revenue. He served many Financial Services clients and grew his practice from 2 to 20 professionals in 3 years.

Ernst started his career at Deloitte Risk Services in the Netherlands and specialized in ERP/ SAP and GRC software solutions. As such, he managed alliances with SAP, BWise, Approva etc. Furthermore, he was a member of their Innovation team being responsible for solution and product development. Together with this team, he developed their own GRC, SOD and process mining solutions among other things.

As community leader, Ernst volunteered in different Institute of Internal Auditors Committees in the Netherlands, supported organizing their International (Global and European) conferences and was President for one of the Mid America chapters.

He finalized a Post-Master on Enterprise Risk Management at the Institute of Risk Management in London and a Post-Master on Internal/ Operational Auditing at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Furthermore, he holds Masters degrees in Business Administration in Strategic Management, and Marketing.
