Surya Mantha

Surya is a Associate Director in Protiviti’s Internal Audit and Financial Advisory (IAFA) practice for 7 years and leads client work in the areas of internal controls and internal audit. Surya is a member of Protiviti’s Global SOX champions network representing UK and participates in the global SOX champions next work calls to share emerging themes and though leadership in SOX. Prior to joining Protiviti, Surya has worked for 10 years at Ernst & Young (Delhi, Dubai and London) advising various clients in a variety of risk and control improvement projects. Surya’s experience also includes working as a ERP Functional Consultant at Fujitsu and working in the retail back office of Standard Chartered Bank. Surya’s diverse experience across various organisations and industries on projects of varying complexity allows him to assist clients to enhance their understanding and assessment of key business risks, develop a robust controls framework to mitigate the risks, and to manage projects of varying sizes. 

Major Projects

• Global Packaging Company – Year 1 SOX Programme - Surya led the SOX programme as a European PMO covering 25 locations including 3 shared service centers. The role involved high collaboration with Protiviti 10 teams and client's Internal controls audit team to achieve high quality outcomes that were consistently delivered. The project was delivered in time and budget.
• European Building Materials Company: Year 2 SOX stabilisation programme – Surya led the year 2 SOX programme partner role of a UK based company. The programme involved 15 workstreams of SOX activities to stabilize the company in its year 2 SOX journey from scoping to testing complex areas of business such as SAP reports working with internal SOX PMO and Business teams and a very engaged SOX Steering committee.
• Global Debt Collection Business: Year one SOX Implementation – Surya led the delivery of a year one SOX engagement that involved scoping and documentation of business processes across the European locations. The project involved working closely with the European Business and the Financial Controls team of the client and guiding them in the SOX journey to achieve planned outcome (99% control operational effective results achieved in year 1).
• Japanese Car Maker : J-SOX Annual Testing – Ongoing monitoring of controls framework – Surya led the annual J-SOX testing and remediation efforts of the client's European operations that included, manufacturing, trading, and finance businesses. The engagement involved transition of two businesses into SAP environment and rationalising controls.
• Global Insurer: SOX Readiness Assessment – Initial assessment, Documentation, Control design assessment, and Remediation – Surya led the readiness assessment of a UK listed non-life Insurer who was assessing maturity of their control's framework for potential SEC listing. The engagement involved analysis of significant accounts, scoping, process documentation, risk and control identification, control design assessment, and developing remediation plan to address identified control gaps.
• US Oil and Gas Services Company: SOX Implementation and Testing – Development of internal controls / Ongoing monitoring – This was the first SOX engagements in the practice that was kicked off after SOX legislation came into effect where we were engaged to assist the company to implement the SOX framework in the Middle East. Surya has led the client work for a consecutive period of five years till transitioning the SOX effort to an in-house team.
