Managing Director

Steven is a Managing Director with Protiviti's Regulatory Risk Consulting practice and is located in Chicago. Steven has led internal audits, reviews, and assessments of our clients’ compliance management systems and technical compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations, including consumer and mortgage lending and servicing, deposit operations, consumer reporting, fair lending and privacy, for 20 years. He has led engagements related to the design, implementation and validation of customer remediation programmes and initiatives in response to regulatory examination findings and enforcement actions. 

Major Projects Include:

  • Assessed the maturity and effectiveness of the compliance management system of a top-five credit card issuer under a regulatory consent order, including an evaluation of the adequacy of compliance policies and strategies, resourcing, risk assessment, monitoring and testing and management reporting
  • Led co-sourced internal compliance audits of the consumer lending and deposit operations and compliance risk management programmes for a multiple bank and non-bank financial institutions
  • Evaluated the sufficiency of complex corrective action and consumer remediation project plans addressing marketing, fulfillment, servicing, collections and credit reporting related to credit card, deposit and consumer lending projects for a top-10 U.S. bank as well as a top-five credit card issuer
  • Designed frameworks for a global bank within which to manage consumer remediation issues and regulatory enforcement actions, including the development and deployment of supporting tools, templates and training
  • Assisted a regional U.S. bank with providing retroactively credit decision notifications required by ECOA and FCRA, including defining the scope of historical deficiencies, evaluating data integrity, designing a data-driven lookback methodology and providing quality control oversight of personnel executing the procedures
  • Assisted a large national bank in re-filing its HMDA LAR by documenting its lending and reporting processes and conducting transaction-level accuracy and completeness testing for multiple lines of business to ultimately identify critical control weaknesses and reporting gaps requiring remediation
