SAP Announces Extension of Mainstream Maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 Until the End of 2027
SAP recently announced that it will now provide mainstream maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 and other core applications of SAP Business Suite 7 until the end of 2027. This will be followed by an optional extended maintenance that will be available until the end of 2030. In the same press release, SAP also announced a maintenance commitment for SAP S/4HANA until the end of 2040. According to SAP co-CEO Christian Klein, the announcement was made to offer options for customers who may not be fully ready for SAP S/4HANA.
"In response to … our customers’ demand for choice, SAP will provide additional flexibility to fully embrace the groundbreaking opportunities of SAP S/4HANA that reflects the individual pace and complexity of our customers’ projects,” said Klein.
Streamlining Financial Processes in the Cloud
Finance departments now have many software tools and options at their disposal to automate and assist in budgeting, analysis, billing, accounting, purchasing, reporting, and more. Unfortunately, if these tools do not integrate and synchronize with the organization’s core ERP, deploying these solutions can result in more work and dedicated resources to exchange information between systems, which can result in more manual errors.
In Q4 of 2019, SAPinsider surveyed 102 members of our audience to understand their current finance strategy, whether that involves cloud-native solutions, and how they plan on meeting their strategic needs and objectives. This webinar takes an in-depth look at the data behind these findings as well as the financial strategies of all organizations in the survey.

BigID, an SAP and Protiviti partner and the leader in personal data privacy and protection, announced their Discovery-In-Depth technology to provide organizations with unprecedented visibility and insight into personal and crown jewel data.
The new technology builds on BigID’s patented Correlation technology for finding any Personal Information (PI) and sensitive data, across any data store or pipeline, and correlating it back to a person so as to address critical CCPA and GDPR use cases like personal data rights.

Trends in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Usage - Benchmark Survey
Even with the extension of mainstream maintenance for existing SAP ERP systems to 2027, the topic of SAP S/4HANA migration is still a critical one for most SAP ERP customers. This is not only because the migration process can require a significant time and resource investment, but also because many customers are now leveraging the evaluation of SAP S/4HANA to make decisions around infrastructure, as well as making broader business transformations as part of their migration.
In the fourth quarter of 2019, SAPinsider surveyed their community to gain an understanding of their ERP cloud strategy and to understand where SAP S/4HANA fit in the picture. SAPinsider were most interested in gaining an understanding of the environment in which their current ERP system is deployed, whether they are likely to be using public cloud/hyperscale environments, the current state of their SAP S/4HANA migration, and what is driving their ERP cloud strategy – if they do in fact have an ERP cloud strategy.
Robert Holland, VP Research and Publishing at SAPinsider, has worked in the SAP space for 13 years and will share insights during his session at our SAPinsider 2020 conference March 17-19 in Las Vegas into what SAP customers are planning around their SAP S/4HANA migration.
SAP Announces Board Level Organizational Changes
Continued Focus on Customer-Centricity
The message for SAP in 2020 has been very much one of customer focus. At their FKOM event in January, the message was “Forward Together” and the keynotes in all regions focused on customer stories and driving customer success. A week later, during the FY2019 earnings call, CFO Luka Mucic stated that, “Everyone needs to be pushing to make customer success a top priority. Customers must feel the benefit.” And when SAP announced the extension of mainstream maintenance to 2027 of ERP 6.0 and the other core applications of Business Suite, multiple executives indicated that SAP was making this change now because they were listening to customer input. This customer-focused change continued on February 20 when SAP announced organizational changes focused on better supporting customers, and the departure of two long-term executive board members.
