Professional Experience

Sam is a Director in Protiviti’s Internal Audit and Financial Advisory solution based in London. For over 15 years, Sam has been working in, and providing audit services to, a variety of clients in, banking and asset management. Sam is the lead director for Protiviti’s UK Financial Services IA practice, and the Next Generation Internal Audit lead for the UK business. 

Major Projects

  • Sam is the lead director for two out-sourced internal audit functions, spear-heading the delivery of the annual audit plan, reporting to audit committees and ensuring that the team to appropriately staffed to deliver aligned assurance. Sam has also led the delivery of process mining work for a major global publication company, looking at their shared service centres and driving efficiency improvements in in their accounts payable processes, and has performed risk conduct and culture assessments for a wide range of financial services clients
  • As Head of Operations for the RBS Internal Audit department, responsible for ensuring the smooth day to day running of a global IA function of 500 FTE. Leading a multidisciplinary operations support team of 9 across two locations and delivering on a portfolio of requirements to ensure that all IT, people, internal control and cost reporting deliverables are met. IA lead on multiple transformation programmes within the Bank, responsible for planning and running programmes within the department to deliver on change commitments such as GDPR and Ring Fencing
  • Prior to RBS, Sam was a Senior Manager in PwC London office, responsible for leadership of teams that varied in sizes from 4 to 40, charged with the delivery of out-sourced and co-sourced internal audit reporting for a client portfolio. Delivering internal audit engagements across a broad client base, predominantly overseas HQ investment banks, interdealer brokers and clearing houses, with further work on reviews of credit risk framework assessments and redress and remediation work with various banks
  • From 2010 to 2013 Sam was Trading desk lead for the Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management New Markets team, primarily focused on servicing the needs of the offshore investments of Ultra High Net Worth South African clients. Direct client contact for multiple clients, responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating profitability and reporting on the entire portfolio. Responsible for several different revenue streams, including; implementation and management of discretionary portfolios for clients; daily brokerage revenues; EMEA lead for marketing equity capital raising to private clients
