Fintan is an Associate Director based in London within Protiviti’s Business Performance Improvement practice. He joined Protiviti in 2017 to help build a broader Finance Change and Improvement capability, having previously worked at MD level in the Global Finance team at HSBC for over 20 years. Before joining HSBC, Fintan spent 5 years at Cargill, a global commodities business and 3 years at March Rich AG, also a commodities firm, performing a variety of Finance and Risk roles.

Fintan has significant experience directing business change globally across multi-functional Finance teams, managing the business in collaboration with the support functions of Risk, HR, Technology Services and Facilities Management to increase operational effectiveness and exceed business objectives. Fintan has many years experience of managing stakeholder relationships, up to Board level. He has led teams of up to 100 staff engaged in both Change and BAU operational activities, covering systems, process and people. Fintan has expertise in implementation of Target Operating Model across Finance, building new teams in off-shore locations and restructuring existing teams to harmonise roles and eliminate management layers to maximise efficiencies.

An initial 6 month stint as Interim Head of Enterprise Compliance and a subsequent 8 months as Interim Head of Enterprise Risk, working with the new Director of Risk and Compliance to review existing practices / frameworks / toolkits, bring new capabilities to the existing teams and embedding Risk Governance across the firm

  • Member of the Design and Implementation team for Global Finance Target Operating Model; worked at Regional and Global business level to identify support and structure required for Global Businesses; managed communication and roll out for Global Business Finance teams
  • Led Organisational Transformation of European Finance function, restructuring across 15 European locations; consolidated activities, standardised and realigned processes, managing migrations to SSC, reducing headcount, generating significant cost savings
  • Led Redeployment and Redundancy programmes following Organisational Transformation; appointed liaison for Union representatives with HR; presented and negotiated proposals; completed on schedule
  • Initiated Governance and led Programme for GL Implementation; created Programme Management Office; managed multi-discipline Finance and IT teams over a 2-year period; established collaborative work patterns across multiple sites in the UK and at the SSC in India. 


July 2014 – December 2015 : Chief Operating Officer, Global Banking and Markets Finance; October 2010 - June 2014: Chief Operating Officer, Europe Finance. In both roles, Fintan had responsibility for Projects and Change, Cost Management (Budgets of $200 m), HR (Performance Management, Hiring authorisation, Learning and Development), and Controls (including SOX and Operational Risk reporting).
