The client, a leading waste management authority had undergone a change in its organisation structure which significantly affected the roles and responsibilities of all positions within its organisation. As it is a state-owned organisation, job descriptions had to be documented effectively to ensure mutual understanding of expectations between the employee and the employer.

Protiviti’s Human Capital Consulting professionals held constructive discussions with the client to understand the newly developed organisational structure, grading structure and requirements from the functional areas. A final position list (75 positions across the organisation) was agreed with the client to start documenting the roles and responsibilities. This was achieved by conducting a job analysis exercise where short and long term requirements, reporting lines, and span of control were identified for each of the 75 positions. We also arranged several internal workshops to validate the documented job descriptions (done in both Arabic and English) and obtain sign off.

Lack of clarity in reporting lines and responsibilities were addressed since employees and their managers were part of the job description documentation phase.
