Inclusion Champions
At Protiviti we have inclusion champions at each of our local offices. Our inclusion champions oversee the inclusion efforts of the firm at the local level. They work with the local ENG leaders to drive a strategy to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and provide support, oversight, and resources to the ensure the ENGs are meeting their goals on a local level. Hear from a few inclusion champions about their experiences.

What does Diversity, Equity and Inclusion mean to you?
The acknowledgement that we can learn/grow together while being unique.

What is your favorite part of being an inclusion champion?
Knowing that I can contribute to make a change (even if small) towards equality and inclusion.

What is something around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that your office has done?
We have done a lot of great things, guided by our national team. We had several Courageous Conversations, we hosted the book club, and we also watched a movie and had a debrief discussion.

What does Diversity, Equity and Inclusion mean to you?
Creating an environment where all are comfortable using their voices and all voices are heard.

What is your favorite part of being an inclusion champion?
Working with such passionate and innovative people in the ENGs across Australia and around the world.

How is Diversity, Equity and Inclusion important to your local office?
The ENGs provide an important sense of belonging for our people, an opportunity to demonstrate their passion and a vehicle to promote diversity, equity and inclusion for all.

What is something around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that your office has done?
Since we’re working remotely, we’ve gone online and national.  Two things come to mind:  a monthly Australian Multicultural Network newsletter (highlighting notable national, cultural, and religious highlights for the month) and a recent LGBTQ introduction webinar sponsored by ProPride.

What has been your largest accomplishment being an inclusion champion?
Creating a strong network of DEI champions across Australia and building an Australian DEI strategy to extend the global strategy to address some uniquely Australian opportunities.  For example, one of our key priorities is to develop and launch our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (our commitment to reconciliation with indigenous Australians, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples).

What does Diversity, Equity and Inclusion mean to you?
I see Diversity in the context of economic success: It is one of the building blocks to deliver exceptional service. We create fitting solutions for our clients — and this requires different perspectives on issues and diverse knowledge backgrounds. Only with diverse views we can engage our future challenges. Every time I welcomed a different opinion in the thought process, the result was greater than the sum of its parts. One possibility to enable us to use the diverse talents every one of us has is through inclusion. Embrace and manage diversity. For me it is more of a personal topic, but one wish I have is that everybody on the team feels heard and valued, regardless of position, age, cultural background, personality, etc.

What is your favorite part of being an inclusion champion?
Protiviti globally has great initiatives related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and I am happy to work with the local DEI committee to tailor them for Protiviti Germany. Furthermore, I have to challenge my beliefs and biases regularly — which seems to be taxing at first but will provide benefits in the long run.

What is something around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that your office has done?
Identifying what DEI means for Germany — by a questionnaire, we collected feedback from our colleagues, to hear the voice of everyone. Based on the replies, the DEI committee developed a virtual, interactive workshop related to DEI.

What is your favorite part of being an inclusion champion?
My favorite part of being an inclusion champion is having a role in influencing our inclusion efforts. I have the opportunity to listen, learn, empathize and foster change. I cannot promise to change the world, but I can fight for change in my sphere of influence. I owe that to my team members and am happy to serve.

What has been your largest accomplishment being an inclusion champion?
My largest accomplishment was leading the Courageous Conversation sessions for the Atlanta office. Initially, I was concerned about the emotional toll of asking people to share their personal stories about struggles they had faced, along with the fear that others might negatively judge them.  Additionally, I felt a bit fraudulent in leading the discussions because I knew that many had faced a harder road than I had. However, I found that the session participants were open to listening and/or sharing and I was honored to be able to help facilitate that process.
