Professional Experience
Cory leads our U.S. Financial Services practice. He is also the global leader of the firm’s Risk & Compliance practice. This practice consists of our Credit Risk, Operational Risk, Market & Commodity Risk, Model Validation, ERM and Regulatory Compliance services. He was recently named one of the “Top 25” Consultants in the consulting industry by Consulting Magazine, selected as one of only 3 recipients for Excellence in Financial Services. He brings extensive experience across the financial services industry, focused primarily on banks, insurance companies, specialty finance and other lending institutions, ranging from Top Five Bank Holding companies to community banks, as well as independent consumer and commercial finance companies. He has led numerous consulting engagements on firms ranging from a $2.5 billion financial institution to the largest banks in the world.
 
Representative Engagements Include
  1. Led the streamlining and reengineering of the CRO risk reporting package for one of the world’s largest banks. Engagement condensed and redesigned over 1000 pages of monthly reporting into a 75 page dashboard report covering all major risk areas for the CRO
  2. Overseen and led credit portfolio reviews in both acquisition and ongoing governance situations.  Reviews focused on validation of internal credit risk ratings, overall commentary and analysis on loss exposure within the target portfolio, review of compliance with bank policies and procedures and ratings migration and trend analysis
  3. Led the development and implementation of a comprehensive Transition Services Agreement tracking tool as well as implemented the ongoing billing and receivables management process in one of the largest divestiture situations to occur
  4. Advised on the development and implementation of model governance process, policies and procedures for one of the largest global financial services firms.Included design and implementation of a model inventory software tool, policy design, governance framework, key controls and testing of client’s model validation activities
  5. Designed and implemented the risk measurement processes, tools, methodologies and reporting for the Credit, Liquidity and Interest Rate risks for a multi-billion dollar insurance company, within the client’s ERM framework
  6. Engagement MD for a comprehensive model validation covering Credit, Market and operational risks at a regulated financial services group with over $100 billion in assets. Validations covered model governance, inputs, analytics/model theory, assumptions, outputs and reporting
  7. Led a comprehensive Economic Capital review for a $40 billion U.S. bank using SR99-18 as the key criteria. Reviewed commercial loan pricing models, operational risk practices, asset/liability management policies and procedures, board and management reporting and other risk areas
  8. Overall MD for an economic capital review for a Top 10 U.S. Bank, focused on Credit, Operational, Market and Strategic risks
  9. Engagement MD over the comprehensive Credit Risk Management practices review for a $200 billion North American financial services organization. Included review and commentary on risk rating methodologies, credit administrative function, underwriting quality and portfolio monitoring
  10. Designed multiple risk tiering methodologies including the comprehensive design of a risk rating system for one of the largest venture capital firms, and a risk rating methodology and subsequent process redesign for the risk function of a Top 5 merchant acquiring firm
  11. Oversaw the credit review assessments for 3 of the Top 10 U.S. banks, as well as conducting a benchmarking survey covering 17 of the Top 25 U.S. banks, including 9 of the Top 10
  12. Advised and assisted in creation of several ERM functions within a variety of financial services organizations, ranging from $8 billion community bank to $200 billion+ financial services organizations. Led design of common risk model/language, organization structure, roles/responsibilities, governance, as well as management and board reporting
  13. Subject matter expert on numerous due diligence engagements on behalf of lending institutions evaluating their borrowers across virtually all asset classes: home equity, commercial finance, trade receivables, credit card, auto finance, charged-off receivables and leasing
